Children & Worship is comprised of two programs—one for ages 3-6 and one for ages 7-10. These programs are held during the congregational worship service. The children are called forward at the beginning of the service to be briefly addressed by the pastor and prayed over by the congregation. Then, they are led upstairs to their rooms.
This is an opportunity for children, ages 3 through 6, to experience and worship God through a simplified service. Their service includes a greeting, songs of praise, proclaiming God’s Word through a story told either through Godly Play or with a felt board. (see examples of lessons below). After the story, there is a time to reflect on the story through structured group activities that include puzzles, crafts, and games. Following the reflection activity, the story is read from the Bible and there is a time of thanksgiving and prayer. The children participate in helping with the Communion “feast,” which allows for snack time. We close our service with the children receiving a blessing from the teacher. We ask that parents come upstairs to the Children and Worship room to pick up their children after the service.
This is a new program designed for children, ages 7-10, to help prepare them to eventually transition to worship with our adult congregation. The kids will worship God in a service very similar to ours but on a level they can understand. The children will have their own worship music where they will learn to praise God in a way that is comfortable and meaningful to them. There will be stories and lessons alternating with short sermons that show the kids how these sermons and lessons apply to them in today’s culture and how they can live out their faith. There will be short scripture memorization introduced and a focus on reciting and learning the Lord’s Prayer. An important part of this worship service is to have the kids actively participate and learn how to be servants. There will be opportunities each week for the kids to read scripture, pray, and help serve the “feast.” After the benediction, there will be Bible Jeopardy and trivia games to help the kids continue their learning and have some fun interacting and building their relationships with one another.
