Children and Worship Overview

Children & Worship is an opportunity for children, ages 3 through 2nd grade, to experience and worship God with a service that is on a level they can understand and where they can actively participate.  Children & Worship is held during the congregational worship service.  The children are called forward at the beginning of the service to be briefly addressed by the pastor and prayed over by the congregation.  Then, they are led upstairs to our newly renovated Children & Worship room.  There they experience the essential parts of an adult service:  a greeting, songs of praise, proclaiming God’s Word through a story told either through Godly Play (see YouTube link Jesus Appears to Thomas) or with our felt board (see YouTube link Jesus Rides Into Jerusalem).  After the story, there is a time of response where the children have time to reflect on the story through wondering questions, a craft, or a group activity.  Following the response time, the story is read from the Bible and there is a time of thanksgiving, which includes prayer.  The children participate in helping with the Communion “feast,” which allows for snack time.  We close our service with the children receiving a blessing from the teacher.  We ask that parents come upstairs to the Children and Worship room to pick up their children after the service.
